Along the West Coast, everything has a story and so does our wines.
Our farmers grow grapes on dry-land and deep-rooted bush vines. The wines reflect the ancient soils and coastal proximity for which the Darling region is so well known. In this individually crafted range, every wine tells its own story.
Signal Tower Sauvignon Blanc
The Dassen Island lighthouse (Signal Tower) in many ways symbolizes the key role which the nearby Atlantic Ocean plays in the viticulture of Darling, allowing slow ripening and so retaining delicate fruit flavours.
Lime Kilns Chenin Blanc
Lime kilns were a familiar sight on the West Coast in years past. They were used to bake mussel shells producing lime - that essential component for durable lime-wash paint.
Lady Ann Sauvignon/Semillon
This wine is named after Lady Ann Darling, the wife of Sir Charles Henry Darling, governor of the Cape Colony in 1851 after which the picturesque town of Darling was named. We pay tribute to the 'often forgotten woman-behind-the-man'.
Sir Charles Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot
This wine of stature fittingly pays tribute to the Lieutenant-Governor of the Cape of Good Hope after whom the village of Darling was named in 1851. Darling Cellars salutes its namesake with this finely blended wine.
The Old Grain Silo Shiraz
The Darling region is also well known for the fine wheat it produces. Grain silos dot the landscape and proudly remind us of the contribution of grain to our farming community.
The Old Tractor Pinotage
Decades ago, a tractor launching a ski-boat off Yzerfontein was caught in a high tide and was never recovered - it can be spotted occasionally when tide is low.
