We are celebrating 100 years of Pinotage grapes in South Africa.
Pinotage is South Africa's signature red grape variety, created in 1925 by Professor Abraham Izak Perold at Stellenbosch University. He cross-bred Pinot Noir (prized for its elegance) with Cinsaut (then known locally as "Hermitage," valued for its vigor and adaptability) - hence the name Pinotage.
With this mixed case of Pinotage, we not only want to honour Professor Perold, but also give the consumer the 6 diverse Pinotage wines to taste.

L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage - An elegant reference of Stellenbosch Pinotage. The L'Avenir Provenance Pinotage is medium-bodied with fragrant floral and black cherry aromas and a hint of spiciness, rounded off by a smooth, lingering finish.

Warwick First Lady Pinotage - Expressive nose of cherry, black currents and warm spice. Palate is bright and medium-bodied. Soft finish with long-lasting aftertaste.

Diemersdal Pinotage - The wine draws varietal expression from the cool growing conditions on the exposed vineyard slopes at Diemersdal. Dryland farming allows the fruit to ripen slowly, resulting in a wine of structure and elegance. Matured for 11 months in French oak barrels.

Leopard's Leap - A versatile, South African Pinotage showing characteristic typicity, that is fruit driven and well balanced. The wine is matured with a mixture of French and American oak staves.

Simonsig Pick of the bunch - The first red wine released by Simonsig in 1970 was a Pinotage. It is lightly wooded, with only a small portion of the wine spending time in second- and third fill French oak, accentuating the raspberry fruitiness of the Pinotage grape.

Stellenrust Pinotage - Pinotage is one of the grapes showing most potential in South Africa. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but if it is grown and vinified correctly, it becomes an interesting wine with depth and character able to compete with any of the other noble varieties.
