This Soy Peptone is a high-quality, plant-based protein hydrolysate derived from soybeans. It is designed to support the growth of a wide range of microorganisms, making it an essential ingredient for microbiological media and fermentation processes. This product is ideal for use in both research and industrial applications.

Peptone is used as a nitrogen source in mushroom cultivation. Peptone is made from a hydrolysed protein source, where acids or enzymes break the protein down into simple amino acid building blocks. This peptone comes from soy protein, is food grade, vegan, and certified organic.

Key Features:
High Purity: Produced from non-GMO soybeans, ensuring a pure and consistent product with a minimum purity of 98%.
Organically Certified: Certified by Ecocert (#269633/010920230941), guaranteeing that the product meets stringent organic standards.
Versatile: Suitable for a variety of microbiological and fermentation applications.
Vegan-Friendly: Completely plant-based, making it suitable for vegan formulations.
Convenient Packaging: Comes in a 320 ml polypropylene bottle, containing 110 grams of Soy Peptone for easy handling and storage.

Applications:
Microbiological media preparation
Fermentation processes
Cell culture media
Biotechnological research

What is Peptone? Peptones, also known as protein hydrolysates, are the water-soluble products derived from the partial hydrolysis of proteins from plant, yeast, or animal sources. The protein hydrolysis process can be accomplished using strong acids, bases, or proteolytic enzymes, creating a complex, nutritionally enriched final product. This peptone includes polypeptides, dipeptides, and 18 amino acids, used in culture media in bacteriology as a protein source in media (liquid culture or agar).

How to Use Peptone: In your media, there are two constituents: carbon and nitrogen. Carbon comes from sugars (carbohydrates), and nitrogen comes from proteins, which are basically amino acids in simple form and contain all other elements required for cell growth. This is also called the C/N ratio (carbon to nitrogen).

For sugars (carbon source), it is advised to use simple sugars like glucose (called dextrose in America) and limit to 2% (i.e., 20 grams dextrose/liter). Mushrooms can't synthesize this themselves; this is the symbiotic relationship between fungi and plants. The fungi break down the organic component in soil to supply plants with nutrients, and in return, the plant supplies the fungi with excess sugars (a product of photosynthesis).

Complex sugars like table sugar (sucrose) should be avoided as they are bad for mycelia. One exception is Cordyceps, which seem to prefer it, possibly due to their unique parasitic relationship with insects.

Peptone S in Agar Media: For mushroom cultivation, peptone is used as an additive to your usual media recipe like PDA, MEA, OA, etc. Use only at 0.1% (i.e., 1 gram/litre media).

Peptone S in Liquid Culture: In liquid culture, peptone really shines as it causes no sedimentation and, in combination with dextrose, makes a totally clear media. Cloudiness in LC is a sign of bacterial contamination, so clarity is quite important as a first-line check of your liquid culture contamination.

For liquid culture, a simple recipe that far outperforms many others is 1% glucose/dextrose and 0.17% peptone:

1000 ml dechlorinated water
10 g dextrose (glucose)
1.7 g peptone
Simply add dextrose and peptone to lukewarm water, and it will quickly dissolve. Then, you can put it in your LC vessels and sterilize for 15-30 minutes.

Peptone is also used in Cordyceps Militaris broth: 2-3% glucose or sucrose, 0.22% peptone.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use to maintain product quality.

Food Grade Uses: Soy Peptone, being food grade, can be used in various applications beyond microbiological media and fermentation processes. Some additional uses include:

xNutritional Supplements: As a protein source in dietary supplements.
xFood and Beverage Industry: Used in the production of fermented foods and beverages like soy sauce, miso, and tempeh.
xAnimal Feed: As a protein supplement in animal feed formulations.
xCosmetics: In skincare products for its moisturizing and nourishing properties.
