Safety and Professional Standards
Working with epoxy resin requires strict adherence to safety protocols due to the physical and chemical hazards involved.
- Respiratory Protection: Inhaling poses a significant health risk, potentially leading to serious lung conditions. A properly fitted respirator mask is a mandatory safety requirement when handling these fine powders.
- Chemical Handling: Mixing epoxy resin and hardener initiates a chemical reaction that generates heat (exothermic reaction). The addition of thickening agents like silica can alter the rate of this reaction.
- Environmental Controls: Proper ventilation and personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and eye protection, are necessary to prevent skin irritation and chemical exposure.
1: Surface Preparation (Most Critical Step)
- Clean thoroughly: Sweep, blow out, and vacuum the area until it is entirely free of dirt, dust, and loose materials.
- Profile the concrete: Use a grinder or shot-blaster to scuff up smooth concrete so the resin can form a strong mechanical bond.
- Patch cracks: Fill any noticeable holes or deep crevices with a dedicated epoxy patching gel or compound.
- Moisture test: Ensure your floor's moisture level is below 4% before applying anything, as trapped moisture will cause the epoxy to peel off later.
Applying the Primer Coat
Mix the primer: Combine your primer part A 1.1kg with primer part B 400g according to the product directions, stirring slowly for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Cut in edges: Pour a small amount of primer into a hand container and use a brush to paint the edges and corners first.
- Roll the surface: Use a roller to apply an even layer of primer across the main area. Roll back and forth to work the product into the pores.
- Check the cure time: Wait until the primer is semi-cured and tacky (usually about 1 hour, or when it feels sticky like tape without leaving residue on your gloved finger) before pouring your metallic epoxy marble layer
2. Mix the Liquid EpoxyKing
- Mixing: Pour part A 2.5kg resin into the bucket. Add part B 1.5kg hardener into the same bucket as part A and mix it together using a drill.
- In another bucket, Pour part A 2.5kg resin into the bucket. Add part B 1.5kg hardener into the same bucket as part A and mix it together using a drill.
- Mix part A 1.25kg with part B 650g in a small bucket, stir them together for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Blend the liquids together thoroughly for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Add pigment (WHITE)
- Add the Pigment Gradually: add your white pigment 500g into the mixed epoxy (first mixed bucket). Adding it too fast can cause heavy clumping.
- Stir Gently and Scrape Sides: Mix at a slow, steady speed to prevent adding excess air bubbles. Use a margin trowel or stir stick to scrape unmixed pigment off the sides and bottom of the bucket.
- Check Uniformity: Keep mixing until you see a smooth, uniform, and shimmery texture.
Prepare Highlights
- Mix (metallic silver): Pour your metallic Silver 25g on a bucket or container (epoxy second mixed bucket), stir/mix them together until it forms smooth texture.
- Mix (color of your choice): On another bucket or container (third mixed epoxy), add metallic marble(color of your choice) 25g, mix or stir them together to forms smooth shimmery pigment color.
NB: Once you finish mixing for the recommended 3 minutes, pour the epoxy onto your project surface immediately. Leaving it sitting inside the mixing bucket shortens its life span. The working time-commonly referred to as "pot life" typically lasts between 20 to 45 minutes after the epoxy is mixed.
5. Prepare for Application
- Wear gloves, goggles, dust mask, and spike shoes.
- Ensure the floor is clean, dry, smooth and level.
6. Pouring/Applying on the surface
- Pour ribbons: Pour the mixed epoxy onto the floor in random ribbons or puddles.
- Pour over the base in creative patterns, then gently blend using the roller for marble-like effects.
- Spread and manipulate: Use a flat crapper or foam roller sheld at a 45-degree angle to move the product smoothly across the quartz-reinforced base.
- Wear spiked shoes when walking or applying the mixture on the floor and use spike roller to pop up the bubbles.
Coverage: (marble finish requires extra thickness).
- The mixture covers upto 10square meters surface floor.
Proper curing is critical for marble metallic epoxy to ensure it achieves its glass-like shine, chemical resistance, and structural strength.
1. Initial Flow and Leveling (0-2 Hours)
- Keep room sealed: Close all windows, doors, and vents to prevent dust, insects, or debris from landing on the wet epoxy.
- Maintain temperature: Keep the room temperature stable between 15 C and 25 C. Cold temperatures stop the reaction, while high heat causes premature gelling.
- Watch the shift: The metallic pigments will slowly shift, settle, and create natural marble veins on their own during this window.
2. Gel State (2-6 Hours)
- Do not touch: The epoxy transitions into a sticky, jelly-like state.
- Avoid manipulation: Do not attempt to fix imperfections. Doing so will permanently ruin the marble pattern and leave deep pits.
- Turn off airflow: Ensure no direct heating, ventilation and air conditioning air or fans blow across the floor, which can cause surface ripples.
3. Dry to touch (8 to 48 hours)
- Check the surface: The floor will lose its stickiness and feel solid.
- Walk with care: You can walk on the floor wearing clean socks or soft-soled shoes.
- No heavy objects: Do not drag tools, ladders, or furniture across the surface yet.
4. Full Chemical Cure (48 to 72 hours)
- Achieve maximum hardness: The epoxy takes 72 hours to complete its cross-linking process and reach maximum scratch and chemical resistance.
- Return vehicles and furniture: You can now park cars, place heavy machinery, or arrange heavy furniture.
