Originally hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Commissioned was founded by Fred Hammond and Michael Brooks in the early 80's. The original members also included Mitchell Jones, Keith Staten, Karl Reid and Michael Williams. The group had 14 Top Billboard Gospel Chart Albums, including 11 that achieved Top 10 status. Their crossover appeal resulted in 10 of their albums appearing in the Billboard Top Contemporary Christian Album chart. By the early 1990's, the original members of Commissioned were called to the own ministries. Fred Hammond has gone on to become one of the most successful artist/writers in Gospel music. Michael Brooks founded Witness which he managed to consistent chart success, and also become a successful artist/writer: and Keith Staten embarked on a solo career as a praise and worship artist.
