The story of Prez is much more than just football, and at its heart is really about being a parent of a sports-mad child. It also explores education, athletics, justice and injustice, along with glimpses into the mind of a lawyer, all of which is revealed by Prez's time in grassroots football and at the Nottingham Forest Academy. It is an intimate, intensely personal account that gives a remarkable insight into amateur and professional football.
Tied into this memoir is an interesting vignette arising from some litigation between Brian Clough and Robert Maxwell. Prez's story also involves the purchase and sale of Notts County by Alan Hardy. Other well-known football celebrities who pop up include Darren Fletcher and Gary Brazil, the Academy Manager at Nottingham Forest, who once said to Andrew, "You watch everything that goes on here." He never spoke a truer word.
Based on his diaries and supplemented by copious anecdotes, Andrew Prestwich takes readers into the world of junior football through the compelling tale of Prez.
Readers will love Prez - both the boy and the book.
