The Sausage Roll Your Dog Has Been Dreaming Of.
Meet Pets Elite Natural Hide Sausage Roll Medium - a generous pork rind chew, rolled and wrapped around a filling of real Pets Elite dried sausage, prepared in the style of traditional South African droëwors - completely salt-free and spice-free. Roughly 25mm in diameter and 150mm long, though natural size variation applies as each piece is a real, handcrafted product. The result is a two-layer chewing experience that delivers firm rind on the outside, rich and deeply meaty sausage in the middle, and pure South African chewing satisfaction from first bite to last.
And yes - every South African knows a sausage roll. That satisfying combination of a firm, flaky outer layer wrapped around a deeply flavourful filling - the kind of thing that disappears embarrassingly fast at every gathering. This is that iconic format, recreated in natural pork rind, built for your dog, and lasting considerably longer than the human version ever does.
This is the Pets Elite Ancestral Lifestyle in its most honest, BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food) aligned form - real food, honestly prepared, doing exactly what a great natural chew should.
Part of the growing Pets Elite Natural Hide Range - alongside the Natural Hide Bone, Rings, Chips, Koeksister and Patties, all made with the same clean, honest, Pets Elite approach.
What Goes Into Every Sausage Roll - And What Doesn't
Two real ingredients. Two layers of genuine chewing satisfaction.
The Outer Layer - Real Pork Rind
The genuine outer skin of the pig - a true food product that was always meant to be eaten. Naturally rich in collagen, protein, and the structural nutrients a dog's body recognises and uses. Rolled and prepared the Pets Elite way: cleanly, gently, and honestly - no shortcuts, nothing hidden.
The Filling - Real Pets Elite Dried Sausage
Our own dried sausage, prepared in the style of traditional South African droëwors - completely salt-free, spice-free, and free from artificial flavourants and colourants of any kind. Firm, flavourful, and deeply satisfying - the same honest dried sausage your dog already loves, now wrapped in pork rind for an extraordinary combined chewing experience.
Many mass-produced hide chews lean on harsh chemical processing - the Natural Hide Range exists to do the opposite: a natural alternative to traditional rawhide. No harsh chemical treatments. No artificial flavourants. No artificial colourants. Just real pork rind and real dried sausage, prepared with care. What you read on the label is genuinely all there is.
Why Pork Rind Is So Good for Dogs
Naturally rich in collagen - the structural protein supporting joint flexibility, connective tissue health, skin elasticity, and a glossy coat. Naturally high in protein. Real, food-grade nourishment in a form a dog's body recognises. No grains. No fillers. No empty nutrition. Pure protein and collagen from a real food source - aligned with the BARF philosophy from first bite to last.
A Solid 150mm of Pure Chewing Satisfaction
The ideal middle ground between the handy Small and the marathon Large. At roughly 25mm in diameter and 150mm long, the Natural Hide Sausage Roll Medium is a proper, satisfying chew built for a genuinely engaging session. The rolled structure creates a varied, multi-layer chewing experience - firm rind on the outside gradually giving way to the rich, meaty dried sausage filling inside. Different textures, different flavour intensities, sustained engagement throughout. A proper chew your dog will commit to completely from the first sniff to the very last bite.
Take It Even Further - Add a Topper
Pets Elite Peanut Butter for Dogs - spread a little along the outside for an extraordinary focused chewing session. In line with the BARF philosophy.
Pets Elite Mutelo - Foundation Food. Modern Indulgence. Our rich, spoonable beef tallow treat, blended from premium beef tallows including unique, deeply nourishing bone marrow tallow - a decadent, BARF-aligned upgrade your dog will adore.
Chewyness Rating: 3-4/5 - Medium Hard to Hard
Our Chewyness Scale: 1 = Very Soft | 2 = Soft | 3 = Medium Hard | 4 = Hard | 5 = Very Hard

Size & Natural Variation
Each Natural Hide Sausage Roll Medium is roughly 25mm in diameter and 150mm long - natural size variation applies as each piece is a real, handcrafted product. Sold by unit, not by weight. Natural variation in size, shape, colour, and texture applies - that's the honest reality of a real, naturally prepared product. What varies is the natural character of each piece, never the quality.
Suitable For
Medium and large breeds | Power chewers and dedicated chewing enthusiasts | Active dogs and working breeds | Dogs needing collagen, joint, skin, and coat support | Dogs needing long-format enrichment and mental stimulation | Raw feeders and BARF diet enthusiasts | Multi-dog households
Not Recommended For
Dogs that gulp large pieces whole without chewing | Very small dogs or puppies - consider the Small, or break into shorter sections
Feeding & Safety Tips
Always supervise your dog while chewing and keep fresh water available at all times. Remove the chew if it becomes small enough to swallow whole. For very small dogs, break into shorter sections before serving. The rich natural aroma is part of the appeal - that's real food. Natural variation in size, colour, and texture is expected. Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Feed as a complementary treat only. Treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog's daily calorie intake.
