About Catnip:
Catnip, a member of the mint family with a distinct aroma, is well known for its captivating effect on cats. It contains a natural compound called nepetalactone, which triggers a unique behavioural response in many felines.
When cats interact with catnip,by sniffing, licking, or rubbing against it, they may display playful behaviours such as rolling, rubbing, purring, and bursts of activity.
These reactions are usually short-lived, lasting around 10 to 15 minutes, after which cats temporarily become less sensitive to its effects.
Not all cats respond to catnip, as sensitivity is hereditary, with approximately 50-70% of cats being affected.
Catnip is generally considered safe and can provide enrichment, encourage exercise, and help reduce stress or boredom in cats.
