What It Is
Powdered kratom is made using the ground leaves of Mitragyna speciosa, a tropical tree forming part of the coffee family. Like coffee in the West, kratom forms a similarly integral part of many Southeast Asian cultures. More recently, kratom has gained popularity in the West due to its potent, immediately noticeable effects. Potential buyers should note that kratom is psychoactive, with effects that are significantly stronger than other herbal supplements. The trade-off for this high efficacy is the risk of dependence.
Please Note:
Kratom has the potential to cause addiction and dependence in susceptible individuals. We recommend it only for occasional use. In cases where frequent use is required (such as chronic pain), we advise that you take regular tolerance breaks to bring the body back to baseline. Those with a history of substance addiction should never take kratom unless using it to transition off of a more harmful substance.
Those who are currently using medication should consult with their medical practitioner before using kratom. Do not use kratom while pregnant or nursing.
How It Works
Kratom has psychoactive effects which vary according to dose. It is generally stimulating at low doses, and sedating at higher doses. This "biphasic" effect is the result of very complex pharmacology.
Kratom's principle compounds are mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. These molecules are termed "promiscuous" by scientists, because they affect multiple distinct systems within the nervous system. Among others, kratom is known to modulate the opioid, catecholamine and NMDA systems. Interestingly, it is one of the only substances known to activate certain types of opioid receptor while blocking others. The exact manner in which it interacts with the catecholamine systems is still being investigated.
Usage Instructions
Start with 1 capsule to gauge effects. Then dose as needed. Do not exceed 4 capsules in 24 hours. Take regular breaks to avoid tolerance forming.
