Nigiro Jasmine Bai Hao Oolong Tea is a tea of remarkable refinement, woven from tradition, patience, and craftsmanship. It begins with Bai Hao Oolong, meaning White Tip Oolong, named after the silvery white hairs visible on the young buds and tender leaves. This visual marker signifies quality, as only the youngest, most delicate leaves are hand harvested to create this tea. Bai Hao Oolong is partially fermented, offering a naturally smooth body with floral and fruity notes that provide the perfect foundation for jasmine scenting.
What makes this tea extraordinary is not simply the base leaf, but the meticulous process through which it acquires its enchanting jasmine character. The jasmine blossoms used for this tea are harvested at a very specific time, before the buds have opened, from nearby jasmine farms. This stage of harvest is critical, as unopened jasmine buds contain the concentrated essence of their fragrance, waiting to be released.
The traditional scenting process begins by layering these unopened jasmine buds between thin sheets of Bai Hao Oolong tea. As evening falls and the temperature cools, the jasmine buds slowly bloom for the first time, releasing their most intense and pure fragrance. The tea leaves, with their naturally absorbent qualities, capture the delicate jasmine aroma during this critical moment.
This layering and scenting process is repeated over several days. Each round demands patience and precision, allowing the tea to gradually absorb the jasmine's full character without overwhelming its natural oolong sweetness. After this time consuming and entirely natural process, the jasmine blossoms are carefully removed. What remains is a tea that carries the floral grace and unmistakable elegance of jasmine, infused deeply into the leaves, yet retaining the structure and complexity of Bai Hao Oolong.
Historically, teas of this calibre were reserved exclusively for nobility and the Imperial Court, where only the finest scented teas would grace the tables of the elite. A single taste of Nigiro Jasmine Bai Hao Oolong reveals why this tea is far from an ordinary jasmine infusion. It is rich, aromatic, smooth, and layered with a fragrance that feels pure yet restrained, sophisticated yet inviting.
This is not a flavoured tea created by artificial means, but an expression of tradition and natural mastery, crafted for those who appreciate authenticity, precision, and quiet luxury in every sip.
Serving suggestion:
We recommend brewing oolong tea with water at around 85 degrees Celsius. Steep the tea for approximately 3 minutes, then taste to see if the strength suits your preference. If you desire a stronger brew, you may steep it for another minute or two. Use a teapot with an infuser for best results. If a teapot is not available, an infuser ball, infuser cup, or a fine mesh strainer will also work well. For each serving, use about 3 to 4 grams of loose leaf tea, or roughly one teaspoon. This tea may be steeped a second time; simply extend the brewing time to draw out the remaining flavour.
