If only Madacy's The Best of Kenny Rogers featured a few more songs and filled up the empty space on this CD, it could be a definitive single-disc Rogers best-of. But, as is, it's a little brief with only ten songs. Still, despite this, everything here is standout, clearly Rogers' biggest hits: "Lady," "The Gambler," "She Believes in Me," "We've Got Tonight," "Lucille," and so on. These were all big hits for Rogers, and it's fairly obvious why -- they're quite calculated adult country-pop that should appeal to conservative listeners of both crowds. And when his ballads were on, like "Lady," they could appeal to damn near anyone, even if they are a bit shallow. So in sum, The Best of Kenny Rogers isn't as comprehensive or definitive as it could be, but it still gives you what you need in a single-disc best-of -- the most well-known hits and nothing more. ~ Jason Birchmeier
