When two batteries are connected, each battery is charged independently, with the controller automatically directing more charging current to the battery with the lower charge level. This intelligent charging method ensures both batteries reach full charge efficiently without requiring manual balancing.The regulator supports a maximum charging capacity of 16 A, allowing either two independent 12 V batteries to be charged at up to 8 A each or a single battery to receive the full 16 A by connecting both outputs in parallel. Integrated LED indicators provide clear visual feedback, showing when each battery is charging and when all connected batteries have reached full charge.For higher charging currents above 4 A, the module should be mounted to a suitable heatsink with a minimum surface area of 300 cm to ensure reliable thermal management during continuous operation. Reverse current protection is built in, eliminating the need for an external blocking diode and preventing battery discharge through the solar panel during periods of low or no sunlight.With an extremely low standby current consumption of less than 2 mA, the M174 minimises battery drain when the solar system is inactive.
