This Jacques Herbin Egyptian writing set is a unique addition to your calligraphy collection, or an ideal gift for someone who has a passion for calligraphy.
Egyptians wrote hieroglyphics on papyrus thanks to calamus, a natural material still used today for Egyptian calligraphy, writing or drawing. The Arabic translation means "pencil".
The calame is known more frequently as a reed pen. It has a unique feel on the paper and a large ink reserve.
Papyrus is a paper-like material historically used in ancient Egypt and other Mediterranean civilizations. Made from the pith of the papyrus plant, papyrus paper provides a smooth writing surface which is often written on using reed pens and ink. The writing surface is very durable and many ancient papyrus documents have survived to the present day!
