Common Symptoms of Failure
A faulty engine fan can lead to serious engine damage if not addressed promptly. Key symptoms of failure include:
- Engine Overheating: The most obvious sign, especially when the vehicle is idling or moving at low speeds (when natural airflow isn't sufficient).
- A/C Performance Issues: The fan helps cool the A/C condenser, so weak or non-functional air conditioning, particularly at idle, can indicate a problem.
- Unusual Noises: Grinding, buzzing, or loud whirring sounds coming from the fan area might suggest damaged blades or a failing motor.
- Fan Not Spinning: When the engine is hot or the A/C is on, the fan should activate. If it remains off, the motor, relay, or fuse may be faulty.
