Description
A chafing dish is an essential piece of catering equipment used specifically for keeping pre-cooked food warm during service. It is not intended to cook raw food.
Key Components:
- Frame/Stand: The sturdy base that holds the entire assembly together and provides space for the heat source underneath.
- Water Pan: A deeper pan that sits in the frame. You fill this with about 2-3 cm of hot water.
- Food Pan(s): The insert(s) that hold your food. These sit inside the water pan. The steam generated by the heated water gently warms the food above, preventing it from drying out or burning.
- Fuel Holders/Burners: These are placed at the base of the frame to heat the water. They typically use gel or liquid chafing fuel (though some models can be fitted with electric heating elements).
- Glass Lid: This allows guests to see the food without needing to lift the lid, which helps retain heat and moisture and keeps the serving area sanitary.
