HOW TO KEEP YOUR AIR MATTRESS FIRM ALL NIGHT

Most air loss on a new air mattress is not a leak. It is usually the material stretching or the air cooling overnight. Follow these steps for the best results.

BEFORE FIRST USE

Inflate the mattress fully a day or two before you need it. New vinyl stretches during the first few uses, so top up the air as needed. This is normal.

Leave it inflated for 8 to 12 hours before sleeping on it for the first time.

INFLATING CORRECTLY

Fill to about 90 percent and stop once the mattress feels firm. Overinflating strains the seams.

Avoid inflating in the heat of the day. Warm air shrinks as the night cools, which can make the mattress feel softer.

Close the valve fully. Push the cap in firmly or turn the dial all the way closed. A loose valve is the most common cause of air loss.

WHILE IN USE

Place a blanket, foam mat or rug underneath the mattress. This stops the cold floor or ground from cooling the air inside.

On cold nights, top up the air before going to bed.

CHECKING FOR LEAKS

1. Inflate the mattress fully.

2. Listen around the seams and valve for hissing.

3. Brush soapy water over the surface, seams and valve. Bubbles show where air is escaping.

4. Mark the spot, let it dry and repair with a vinyl patch kit.
