From the misty slopes along the Black Sea coast, this iconic black tea represents the heart of Turkish tea culture. Cultivated in the fertile Rize region, Turkish black tea is known for its bold strength, rich aroma, and earthy character. More than just a drink, it is a gesture of hospitality, a daily ritual, and a deep-rooted symbol of connection shared between friends, family and strangers alike.
Tea appreciation in the Middle East traces its roots to the fifth century through Silk Road trade. However, Turkey began cultivating tea locally in the early 1900s. Since then, it has grown into one of the top tea-consuming nations in the world by per capita. With its strong character and deep hue, Turkish black tea is often enjoyed plain or sweetened, and always in small tulip-shaped glasses that amplify its colour and warmth.
Traditionally, Turkish tea is brewed using a double-stacked teapot called a 'çaydanl?k', allowing for both concentrated and diluted tea to be served from the same set. This brewing technique preserves the strength of the tea while allowing each person to choose their preferred intensity. Whether sipped slowly in a quiet café or shared in bustling markets, Turkish Charm is a tea full of history, soul and bold flavour.
Serving suggestion:
We recommend brewing black tea with water at around 95 degrees Celsius. Steep the tea for approximately 3 minutes, then taste to see if the strength suits your preference. If you desire a stronger brew, you may steep it for another minute or two. Use a teapot with an infuser for best results. If a teapot is not available, an infuser ball, infuser cup, or a fine mesh strainer will also work well. For each serving, use about 3 to 4 grams of loose leaf tea, or roughly one teaspoon. This tea may be steeped a second time; simply extend the brewing time to draw out the remaining flavour.
