Bi Luo Chun is a celebrated traditional green tea whose name translates as "Green Spiral Leaves of Spring." This poetic name reflects both its appearance and its origin. The tea is crafted from tender young leaves and buds that are carefully hand-rolled into fine, silken spirals resembling snail shells, a shape that hints at the tea's meticulous artistry. Traditionally harvested in early spring, these delicate leaves offer a bright, revitalising infusion.
What sets Taiwanese Bi Luo Chun apart is its growing environment. In select gardens, fruit trees such as peach, apricot, and plum are cultivated among the tea bushes. When these trees blossom, their floral aromas naturally intermingle with the surrounding air. The tea sprouts, in their tender stage, subtly absorb these ambient fragrances. Once infused, the tea reveals a crisp and elegant profile with gentle notes of stone fruit and a clean, lingering sweetness that echoes the orchard in which it grew.
This tea offers a refreshing and calming experience, perfect for quiet moments or gentle focus. Its light, naturally sweet flavour and low astringency make it easy to enjoy throughout the day, particularly for those who seek balance and clarity in their daily routine. It pairs gracefully with lightly seasoned dishes such as poached chicken, steamed tofu, or simple noodle broths. For a complementary sweet option, try it with almond biscuits, white peaches, or delicate rice cakes. A few slices of fresh pear or apple on the side will enhance the tea's inherent fruity character.
Serving suggestion:
We recommend brewing green tea with water at around 75 degrees Celsius. Steep the tea for approximately 2 minutes, then taste to see if the strength suits your preference. If you desire a stronger brew, you may steep it for another minute or two. Use a teapot with an infuser for best results. If a teapot is not available, an infuser ball, infuser cup, or a fine mesh strainer will also work well. For each serving, use about 3 to 4 grams of loose leaf tea, or roughly one teaspoon. This tea may be steeped a second time; simply extend the brewing time to draw out the remaining flavour.
